The main aim of INTERCEPT is to enhance the capabilities of European law enforcement authorities and provide them with effective means to safely stop vehicles remotely. We initiated our actions in response to the needs reported by security forces with a focus on vehicles that pose imminent and high-security threats to citizens and society. There are still serious challenges with the early detection of potentially dangerous situations; monitoring detected events, and coordinating security forces’ response
The project team, together with security stakeholders, will identify technology gaps to be addressed to reduce existing vulnerabilities and improve security efficiency. Based on this, a security use case and related challenges will be defined. These will form the foundation for conducting a Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) project, during which specific solutions will be developed. Learn more about PCP here.

The INTERCEPT project stems from the work carried out in the i-LEAD project. Following discussions between procurement teams and experts in stopping vehicles, a joint technical specification for a solution to stop motot vehicles remotely was prepared. However, it became clear that no electronic or electrical device could universally stop all vehicles, leading to the decision for a PCP action to support the required advancements. INTERCEPT is a project that will lay solid foundations for this procurement initiative.
